What to Pack

School Supplies:

A student-supplied laptop computer is required. 

  • A good dual language dictionary either electronic or paper (international students).
  • Calculator
  • Academic supplies such as paper clips, paper, staplers, tape, highlighters, pens, pencils, scissors, rulers, etc. can be purchased from the campus book store.
  • After each student receives their course requirements for individual classes, additional items i.e., notebooks, binders, journals may also be purchased at the campus book store.

Clothing Needs

  • Clothes should be neat, clean, and in good taste. Shoes/sandals are required to be worn at all times at school and should be appropriate for weather conditions/seasons and activities. Clothes should be the appropriate size for the student and should cover cleavage, midriffs, and backs. Clothes may not have any graphics or sayings that are derogatory, non-tolerant of others, or promote alcohol or drug use.
  • Dress pants and shirt/blouse or nice dress for semiformal occasions or ceremonies/special occasions.
  • Inclement weather clothing, such as raincoat, winter coat, hat, gloves, boots, umbrella
  • Sports (athletic) clothing
  • Lounge clothing, shirts, sweatpants, pajamas
  • Personal garments
  • Swim suit

Room Needs

NSA furnishes the following:

  • Each student room in the dormitories have regular twin beds, desks, desk chairs, dressers, and window shades.
  • The following bed items are provided: 2 regular twin sheets, blanket, pillow and pillow cover, comforter or bed covering, and a waterproof mattress cover.
  • Students must supply towels and washcloths.
  • Each room also contains drawer space, closet space and a mirror.
  • Most rooms include a private bathroom with shower.
  • Each resident is assigned their own storage space on the lowest level of the dorms.
  • Posters and decorations for walls, tacky tape, small medical kit, water bottle and mug.

The following is a list of items that will help make your student more comfortable in his/her room:

  • A bathrobe and personal toiletries
  • A pair of sandals (for travel between room and restroom/shower area) 
  • An alarm clock, fan(s), cell phone and battery charger, multiple outlet safety strip, voltage adapter for American electricity (international students), flashlight with batteries

Miscellaneous Items and Considerations:

  • A spare pair of glasses or contact lenses if you use them and a copy of your prescription
  • Camera and battery charger
  • All prescribed medications, (over the counter medications can be purchased in the US.)
  • Make sure to carry your passport on you when traveling on the plane
  • Bring spending money or have access to American dollars
  • Bring items for sharing with others about your country i.e., coins, art, clothing, photos, etc.

Many of the personal items can be purchased upon arrival at NSA should the student choose to do so. In addition, students will have additional opportunities to buy miscellaneous items and products during shopping trips.
